James W. (Jim) Ransom

James William "Jim" Ransom, resident of Claremore Veterans Center, passed away Friday, June 12, 2009 at the age 83. Jim was born May 2, 1926 at Owasso, the son of Harry L. and Stella A. (Jones) Ransom. He was raised and received his education in Owasso, graduating with the Class of 1944. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army in November of 1944, serving with the 28th Replacement Depot. Following his discharge in 1946, he returned to Tulsa and furthered his education. He and Norma Jean Hammond were united in marriage, and to this union two sons were born. Jim worked as a data processing supervisor at Warren Petroleum at the time of his retirement. He had been a member of the Tulsa Tennis Club and was a volunteer for the Tulsa Chapter of the American Red Cross. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed playing his ukulele, gardening and fishing.

Those who survive and hold many cherished memories are his son Michael Ransom, Michael's wife Gaye Brown of Tulsa, his son Alan Ransom of Tulsa, and Jim's ex-wife Norma Jean, also of Tulsa

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Walter Ransom and his sister Phyllis Jean “Deanie” Morgan.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Stephanie Sargent of Angelic Hospice officiating. Private burial was at the Fairview Cemetery, Owasso. In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorials in Jim’s memory to the: Alzheimer’s Association-Oklahoma Chapter, 6465 S.
