Alex Kent Greenhaw

Alex Kent Greenhaw, 70, was called to his heavenly home on September 9, 2021. Alex was born on March 5, 1951 to Marvin and Billie Mae (Alexander) Greenhaw. He grew up in Tulsa, OK and attended East Central High School, the University of Arkansas and the University of Tulsa. After meeting the love of his life, Mary (Pixie) Lee while working at Renberg’s, they married in 1972 and were blessed with their daughter, Stephanie in 1973. Alex was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather. Those who knew him all agree that he was a kind, caring man who enjoyed life to the fullest and always opened his heart to others. Alex worked over 40 years in the scaffolding business. After spending years learning the trade at Harsco, he became an owner and president of Freedom Scaffold and enjoyed creating and running his own business. He was a member of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Oklahoma and even after retiring still kept abreast of the industry. Alex’s faith began as a boy, where he first attended St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. A devoted member of the church, he was a proud leader of praise and worship. Alex was extremely active in his church and wore many hats. He will be remembered by the entire congregation, and his spirit and energetic devotion to God will forever remain an example to others. Above all, Alex was passionate and proud of his family. If you were lucky enough to be present when he gazed into his beloved wife’s eyes, you were able to witness pure joy and love. He adored her for almost 49 years, and stood by her side throughout all the wonders and challenges of life. Together, they gardened, tended the land, worshiped God, raised a family and shared laughter and heartache. There was nothing they couldn't handle at each other’s side. Their unbreakable bond was a perfect union of souls. He was also an amazing father. His love for Stephanie was clear and unyielding from the time she was born. As the years passed and she started a family of her own, he was there with advice and support whenever needed. He enjoyed nothing more than cheering for his granddaughters in all of their endeavors. He was passionate and proud to be an integral part of their lives--a great example of a doting grandfather. He never missed a chance to watch them swim, run track or perform at a recital. He truly was their biggest fan and the feeling was mutual! Alex loved to sing and play guitar. He was an enthusiastic fisherman, golfer, woodworker, and especially enjoyed gardening. He raised horses and loved to be outdoors. He welcomed friends and extended family with open arms. Those gatherings showed him in his element, as evidenced by his contagious smiles and laughter while grilling! They were also the perfect time for Alex to humbly demonstrate that he was a wonderful mentor. His profound advice and guidance will not be forgotten and his family will forever appreciate and remember the way his bluntness was balanced with laughter and humor. He would do anything for anyone! Alex devoted his life to being there when others needed him. He will be carried in the hearts of everyone whose lives he touched. The amazing memories he made with those he loved will keep his spirit alive. We are honored to have been part of such a great man’s life and know that he would want only happiness for his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Mary (Pixie) Greenhaw, his daughter and her husband, Stephanie and Paul Rathbone, his granddaughters Alexandra Rathbone and Madeline Rathbone, his mother, Billie Mae Greenhaw, his brother and sister-in-law Brett and Robyn Greenhaw, his mother-in-law Lois Lee, his sister-in-law Teresa Cooper, his sister-in-law and her husband Barbara and Richard Scott, as well as his many nieces, nephews, extended family members and great friends. Alex was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Greenhaw, Jr and his father-in-law Dr. Otis Lee. Although our hearts are heavy, we hope you will help celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in heaven watching over us. Please join us on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 10:30 am at St Mark’s United Methodist Church to remember Alex and honor his legacy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, John 3:16, or Restore Hope.
