Barbara Jean Fuchs

Barbara Jean Fuchs was born February 15, 1943, in Canton, Illinois, to George Morrison McCormick and Mildred Rose Ohlman McCormick. She died Saturday, June 13, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 83 years. Barbara moved with her family to California where she completed her secondary education at Anaheim High School in Anaheim, California. She continued her education at California State University, Long Beach where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree, a major in anthropology and a minor in mathematics. Barbara, her mother Mildred and daughter Christine moved to Northeast Oklahoma in 1976. Barbara began her early working life as a bookkeeper before beginning a 32-year career in education. She taught high school and middle school mathematics at Metro Christian Academy in Tulsa and then with Jenks Public Schools. The last 14 years included teaching advanced and honors classes. Her distinctions and awards included National Honor Society, serving as leader of Girl Scouts of America, Vision of Excellence Award at Jenks High School in 1995, Jenks Central Middle School Teacher of the Year for the 1995-1996 school year, Jenks Public School Foundation Grant Recipient, and Who’s Who among American Teachers, recognized by a National Student of Merit in 1998. While living in Arkansas, Barbara volunteered four years working at the information desk and patient transport for Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas. Barbara was a strong woman of faith and attended Central Baptist Church in Owasso, Oklahoma, where she served as a bookkeeper, working with the food pantry, and preparing meals for funerals and Wednesday night meals. Barbara enjoyed a wide variety of pastimes including traveling the world. Growing up in California she developed a love for the ocean and boogie boarding. She enjoyed simple quiet times like reading, sewing, ceramics, hair bows, and African Violets. She was a fan of Major League Baseball with her two favorite teams, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the California Angels. Those she leaves behind who hold a lifetime of cherished memories include: Husband; Jack, of the home Daughter; Christine Tolbart and husband Steve Grandchildren; Joe Fideline Jacob Tolbart Jared Tolbart Great grandchildren; Kyleigh Fideline, Hadley Fideline, Lucas Fideline, Michael Fideline, Joslynn Tolbart, and Kaylynn Gilbert Stepchildren; Paul Fuchs Robert Fuchs and wife Stacey Pam Fuchs Step grandchildren; Brenndan Fuchs, Dayleth Fuchs, Nyah Fuchs, and Asher Fuchs Sister-in-law; Deana McCormick Nephew; Michael McCormick and wife Tracy Niece; Trina Lathrop and husband Kevin Including great nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mildred McCormick and brother David McCormick. Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2026, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso with Reverend Kevin Laufer officiating. Final resting place will be at Park Grove Cemetery in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Barbara’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2448 East 81st Street, Suite 3000, Tulsa, Oklahoma, 74137.
