Carolyn Kay Lutkie

Carolyn Kay Nichols Lutkie was born April 5, 1941, in Ada, Oklahoma, to Othel Eugene Nichols and Elsie Dimple Ball Nichols. She passed away September 9, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 82. Carolyn lived with her family in Ada in her early years before moving with her family to Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was here that Carolyn would meet and marry William “Bill” Baskins. They were blessed with their children, Steven, Randy, and Shellie. The family moved to Tennessee where Bill was stationed with the United States Army. It was here that Bill would pass in an automobile accident, so Carolyn moved back to Tulsa with her two sons to be with live with her parents, and Shellie would be born. Carolyn would later meet and marry Gerald “Jerry” Lutkie. They moved from Tulsa to Bixby where they would have their son, James Lutkie, then move back to Tulsa. Eventually they moved to Moss Point, Mississippi, before returning to Tulsa once again. Steve, Randy, and Shellie would finish high school then move on from the home. Carolyn, Jerry, and Jimmy would move to Wichita, Kansas. After Jimmy completed high school, Carolyn and Jerry would separate, with Carolyn returning to Tulsa. She spent a few years in Texas, living with her daughter Shellie and son-in-law Kent Pace. After several years in Texas, she returned to Tulsa and began living with her mother Elsie, as her father Gene had passed away. Carolyn and Elsie would move from Tulsa to share an apartment at the Baptist Village of Owasso. Carolyn spent time working several career’s in her life including work as a nurse’s aide. She then spent time as a department manager with Edison’s Department Store and later with J.C. Penney’s. She later worked with her sons Randy and Steve at their aerospace manufacturing company, Walden’s Machine Inc., where she worked in the packaging and I.D. department along with her cousin Virginia Glass. Carolyn was a strong woman of faith attending Central Baptist Church in Owasso for many years. She loved her church family and especially those in her Sunday School Class. She loved to travel around the country taking trips with both family and friends. She enjoyed watching her favorite television shows, especially Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She also enjoyed watching football, both college and professional, along with tennis and the Little League World Series. She was a fan of NASCAR, and watching Randy, Jimmy, and grandson Andrew race sprint cars. Those she leaves behind who hold many cherished memories include: Children; Steve Baskins Randy Baskins and wife Beverly James Lutkie and wife Alisa Grandchildren; Josh Baskins and wife Katie Andrew Baskins and wife Jenny Ashlee Baskins Osborn and husband Jason Tyler Baskins and wife Hannah Jadyn Lutkie Ridge Pace and wife Michelle Noah Pace Bryce Pace and wife Ashli Tiffany Cordova Great grandchildren; Caleb Baskins, Naomi Baskins, Eli Osborn, Lydia Baskins, Anna Baskins, Meredith Osborn, Julia Baskins, Madelaine Osborn, Ezra Baskins, Liam Baskins, Monroe Baskins, Hazel Baskins, Gabriel Cordova, Beckham Pace, Baylor Pace, Trevor Pace, Bo Pace, Ava Turner, and Ethan Turner. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, William Steven Baskins and Gerald Joseph Lutkie, brother, Claude Nichols, sister, Barbara Nichols Wilson, daughter, Shellie Baskins Pace, and daughter-in-law, Pam Baskins. Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Leon Shade officiating. Final resting place will be at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery in Owasso.
