Frances Jean Douglas

' Frances Jean Douglas went on to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 22, 2014 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years. Jean was born August 21, 1928, east of Waukomis in Garfield County, Oklahoma to Frank A. Snow and Frances Ora (Peggy) Bennett. She graduated from Pioneer High School in 1946, where she played basketball, pitched on the softball team and met the love of her life, Glenford Morris Douglas. After graduation, Jean traveled by bus to Memphis, Tennessee, where Glen was stationed with the U.S. Navy. As Glen tells the story, Jean arrived at one bus station and he was waiting for her across the street at the other station. They did eventually find each other and were married in Memphis on June 11, 1946, after being granted special permission by the judge, because Jean was not yet eighteen. The next year they were blessed with their first child, James and later by two daughters, Karen and Joan. Jean was a loving wife and mother, and faithfully served her family with her many talents and patient demeanor. In addition to her devotion to her family, Jean was employed outside the home at various times working at the Enid Morning News, and in Tulsa at Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Hillcrest Hospital and Crane Carrier. Jean was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Owasso, OK. Jean is survived by her husband Glen; her children James Douglas and wife Suzy of Claremore, OK, Karen Roper of Garland, TX and Joan Swope and husband Mike of Owasso; six grandchildren â€“ Steve Reynolds of Ogden, UT, Tony Rey of Garland, TX, Jennifer Hodges of Claremore, OK, Lori Twomey of Houston, TX, Melanie Swope of Tulsa, OK and Christie Douglas of Dallas, TX; six great grandchildren - Jacob Hodges, Hunter Reynolds, Tanner Reynolds, Isabella Rey, Zachary Twomey and Alexa Twomey; her sister Lois Dick of Wichita, KS and a multitude of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Donald Snow. Visitation for Jean will be Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso from 4-6pm. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Bethlehem Baptist Church at Fairmont, OK with Pastor Tom Donaldson officiating. Burial will follow in the Waukomis Cemetery, Waukomis, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Jeanâ€™s memory to Bethlehem Baptist Church, 6206 S. 66th Street, Enid, OK 73701-9639.
