Gloria A. Scala Vance

Gloria Scala Vance passed peacefully on February 25, 2026, at her home in South Carolina. She was 82 years old. Born on June 4, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, Gloria was the cherished daughter of Joseph and Florence Scala beginning a lifelong bond rooted in family, loyalty, and love. Growing up in Brooklyn shaped Gloria's character — resilient, compassionate, intellectually curious, and deeply devoted to those around her. A brilliant and dedicated student, Gloria pursued her passion for learning with determination and purpose. She graduated from St. Brendan High School in 1960 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Education degree from Fordham University, followed by a Master's and Professional Degree in Education from Columbia University. Her academic accomplishments were matched only by her desire to make a difference. Gloria devoted more than 13 years to teaching in the New York City school district, where she touched the lives of countless students. She was not only an educator but a mentor and advocate, believing deeply in the power of knowledge to transform lives. Her classroom was a place of encouragement, structure, and inspiration. In a bold and defining chapter of her life, Gloria chose to embark on a new path, moving to Dallas, Texas, and beginning a nearly 40-year career as a Financial Advisor. With her natural ability to build meaningful relationships, her sharp intellect, and her unwavering commitment to learning and teaching, she quickly distinguished herself in the industry. Gloria became one of the most successful women in her field, earning the trust and respect of clients and colleagues alike. She approached financial advising much like teaching — with clarity, patience, and genuine care for the people she served. It was in Dallas that she met the love of her life, Gene Vance. They married in 1987 and shared 15 joyful years filled with travel, laughter, and deep companionship. Together they embraced their beautifully merged families and a wide circle of cherished friends. Their shared passion for cars led them to become active members of the Mercedes-Benz Club of Dallas, where many friendships and memories were formed. After Gene's passing, Gloria continued forward with strength and grace. She remained active in her work, devoted to her family, and engaged in her community — never losing her zest for life or her hunger for learning. She later found love again with Ron Miller, with whom she spent many wonderful years traveling the world and embracing a new extended family that she lovingly adopted as her own. She was very close to Ron's children Juliet and Bradley as well as his grandchildren. Following Ron's passing, Gloria relocated to South Carolina to be closer to her dear friend Jacqueline, where she spent her final months surrounded by friendship and reflection. Gloria was survived by her brother John and her nephews, Chris and Joseph Scala; their wives, Jennifer and Rachel; and their children, Dylan, Alex, Audrey, and GiGi. She remained a beloved Aunt to Susan, Kay and Kristi and her children Sinclaire, Nicholas and his wife Jennifer. Her visits were always filled with fun, adventure, laughter, and boundless love. She created lasting memories for her family, who will forever cherish the warmth and excitement she brought into their lives. To know Gloria was to know loyalty, intelligence, humor, and fierce love. She was someone you could rely on, confide in, and trust completely. She cared deeply, lived boldly, and loved without reservation. Gloria's life was defined by courage to change, dedication to excellence, and devotion to family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and enduring love that will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
