Jo Ella Mosely

Jo Ella Mosely was born on April 12, 1944, in Wapanucka, Oklahoma to John Clark Reed and Ella V. (Pate) Reed. She passed from this life on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at her home in Oologah, Oklahoma at the age of 80 years. Jo Ella was raised and educated in Wapanucka and graduated with the Wapanucka High School Class of 1962. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s in elementary education from East Central College in Ada, Oklahoma. Jo Ella was married on August 14, 1965, in Wapanucka to Joe Mabry Mosely, whom she met at The Trolley and aspired to marry when she was 14 years old. She loved to tell people that she knew he was “the one” the moment she laid eyes on him. She spent most of her career teaching fourth grade at Oologah Elementary School for 30 years. In her spare time, Jo Ella loved being outdoors, fishing, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. Life was even sweeter if she could combine any or all of those loves. She was also a master with a quilting needle or a sewing machine and gifted many beautiful baby quilts to favored friends and family. Jo Ella enjoyed reading and was a gifted teacher, beloved by her students. Over the years, she inspired an inordinate number of children to love books. Most every student who passed through her classroom can still recall her reading aloud to them, Where the Red Fern Grows and Old Yeller. Both tearjerkers, she cried every year as she read them. She dabbled in playing Methodist hymns at the piano but was better known by her friends as an expert candy maker. Jo Ella was a puzzle enthusiast and was skilled at crosswords and scrabble. She lived and loved and laughed in memorable ways throughout her life. Her sharp wit and generosity of spirit made her stand out from the crowd. Above all, she would have stated her proudest moments and accomplishments were in caring for her husband, daughter, and two grandsons, whom she adored. She lived a life marked by a joyous personal relationship with God and, through nature, spent much time communing with Him. At the end of her life, we wholeheartedly say, “well done, good and faithful servant.” She is survived by: Her Loving Husband of Over 59 years, Joe Mabry Mosely Daughter; Susan Elizabeth Mosely Todd Grandsons; Jake Riley Poplin and wife Mesa Tate Riley Poplin Sisters; Janet Toney Carolyn Free She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ella V. Reed. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso with Reverend Julia Metcalf officiating. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso.
