Vera Marie Meredith

Vera Marie Meredith was born December 1, 1930, in Washington, Indiana, to Hazel and Herschel Mowery. She passed on Thursday, September 28, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 92 years. Vera was the second child in this family of seven children. She was born during the Depression and grew up working hard and knowing how to be thrifty. She was taught by her mother how to cook, can food, and sew clothing. Vera graduated from Mt. Carmel, Illinois, High School in 1948 Vera was saved at the age of six at a Brush Arbor revival where her father was holding a revival. On March 14, 1954, she married the love of her life Donald Ray Meredith at the Antioch Christian Church in Keensburg, Illinois. They then moved from Illinois to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Vera worked in the banking business in Illinois and in Tulsa , until she had children. Don and Vera were mentored by good friends Bill and Helen Chapman. They attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Tulsa where they rededicated their lives to Christ and became members. People who were a significant Christian influence were Mr. and Mrs. John Hirst, Pastor J.L. Canafax, Brother Kenneth Smith, Brother Bob Green, Pastor Chris Wall, and Pastor Paul Purifoy. Vera always taught a Ladies Sunday School Class at the Southern Baptist Church wherever her and Don served the Lord. Also, Vera’s brother John came to Oklahoma as a teenager and lived with their family as one of their own. She assisted him in his funeral home business in the 1980’s. Those she leaves behind who hold many cherished memories include: Her children; David Meredith, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma Debbie Mattingly, of Suffern, New York Daniel Meredith, of Claremore, Oklahoma Dean Meredith and his wife Jill, of Broken Arrow Grandchildren; Melissa Meredith Kristina Fensler and husband David Nathan Meredith and wife Erin Meagan Gilliam and husband Matt Andrew Meredith and wife Kim Creasey Lawson and husband Keith Hannah Meredith Eight Great grandchildren Brother; John Mowery and wife Ann, of Owasso, Oklahoma Sisters; Janet Hill, of Evansville, Illinois Lois Patton and husband Ed, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, sisters, Norma Talley, Vonda Zimmerman, and Melba Burger. Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Chris Wall officiating. Committal service and interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Owasso. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Vera’s memory to the Owasso Baptist Children’s Home, 1200 East 76th Street North, Owasso, Oklahoma, 74055.
