Burl D. Wilbanks

Burl D. Wilbanks was born August 14, 1932, in Oakland, Arkansas. He was the youngest of six children born to Elonzo Wilbanks and Eula Due Wilbanks. Burl died Wednesday, July 1, 2026, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 93. Burl was a Korean War veteran of the armed forces, having served his country honorably as an Instrumentman IM2 with the United States Navy. He was married in Yuma, Arizona, on July 4, 1953, to Cora “Corky” Buchanan. He spent his professional working life as a typewriter/cash register repairman with Henricks Office Machines in Tulsa, and later as an office machine technician and foreman for Tulsa Public Schools. Burl and Corky have made Owasso, Oklahoma their home since May 1959. Burl was a strong man of faith and had attended Bethel Baptist Church in Owasso for many years prior to becoming a part of First Baptist Church in Collinsville, Oklahoma. He was also a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans and the Fleet Reserve Association. Burl enjoyed a variety of pastimes, including thousands of hours spent on the water fishing during midlife and beyond. He and his wife were also avid followers of bluegrass music and attended many music festivals throughout their life together. Burl dearly loved his family, especially the grandchildren who knew him affectionately as “Grandpa”. Those he leaves behind who hold a lifetime of cherished memories include: His beloved wife of 73 years; Corky Children; Mariesa Worman and husband Bill Terri Raglin Michael Wilbanks and wife Michelle Grandchildren; Chad Jernigan and wife Kaeley Chanda Moeller and husband Robbie Aubrey Fischer and husband Kelly Sharla Eilers Travis Wilbanks and wife Rachel Cory Wilbanks Alyssa Wilbanks and husband Nathan Deal Great grandchildren; Brandon Whiteley, Dylan Lyddon and wife, Karlee, Landen Jernigan, Ava Jernigan, Finlee Moeller, Paxton Wilbanks, Parker Wilbanks, Jack Wilbanks, Elijah Sonnier, Bailey Deal, and Brylee Deal Burl was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Basil Wilbanks and Joe Amon Wilbanks, three sisters, Georgia Wilbanks, Fatha Wilbanks Griffin, and Elzetta Wilbanks Betts, son-in-law, Steve Mirkin, and grandson-in-law, Charlie Lyddon. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2026, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Tim Prock officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Michael Wilbanks, Bill Worman, Travis Wilbanks, Cory Wilbanks, Brandon Whiteley and Dylan Lyddon. Honorary casket bearers are Robbie Moeller and Nathan Deal. Committal service and interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery in Owasso, Oklahoma.
