Gene Barron Russell

'Gene Russell, longtime resident of Owasso, was born May 21, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Derral Eugene and Billie Marie (Sharp) Russell. He died Friday, May 8, 2015, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 68 years. Gene was reared and educated in Oklahoma City and graduated with the Capital Hill High School Class of 1964. He attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma, where he earned his Bachelorâ€™s Degree in Applied Ministry (Educational Emphasis) and completed his education earning his Masterâ€™s Degree in Business Administration from Oklahoma City University. Gene was married August 1, 1975, in Tulsa, to Judy Proctor. They have made their home in Owasso since 1977. He spent his early working life as divisional merchandise manager with OTASCO and then retail marketing manager for Purolator. Most recently he was a management consultant through Russell Management Resources. He also served as Executive Director of the Tri-State Sign Association in Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri. Gene was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church in Owasso where he served as deacon, Bible Study teacher, and several other positions. He enjoyed a variety of pastimes, but his family was most important, especially the grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents.Loving family members include:His wife, Judy, of the homeThree sons and daughters-in-law and 13 grandchildren:Jim and Gayle Russell, of Owasso (Corbin, Pierce, Valerie)Jon and Cindy Russell, of Owasso (Emily, Travis, Erika, Justin, Hayley, Jared, David)Kris and Valerie, of Edmond, OK (Major, Avery, Grace)Brother Bill Russell (Vicki), sisters Frances Larman, Darla Gilbert (Curtis) and Gayla Cain, all of Oklahoma City. He will be missed, as well, by his extended family and many, many friends.Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2015, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Bethel Baptist Church in Owasso with Pastor Bill Ascol officiating. Private committal services and interment will follow at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The family requests that memorial donations may be made in memory of Gene Russell to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
