James "Jim" Newton Short

James “Jim” Newton Short was born August 20, 1936, in Sadler, Texas, to Frank Sam Short and Lillie Bell Phillips Short. He died Saturday, August 1, 2026, in Collinsville, Oklahoma, just shy of his 90th birthday. Jim completed his secondary education at Lone Grove, Oklahoma, and was a graduate of Lone Grove High School. He was a veteran of the armed forces having served his country honorably with the United States Army. Jim married the love of his life, Lovonia Marie Jackman, on April 6, 1956, in Gainesville, Texas. Jim and Lovonia made their home in Collinsville, Oklahoma, where they owned and operated Mr. Klean Car Wash, a full-service carwash and detail service. They were both longtime active members of Collinsville, Baptist Tabernacle. Jim enjoyed a variety of pastimes including playing church league softball and competing in the Senior Olympics. He was also an avid fan of Oklahoma Sooner football. Those he leaves behind who hold a lifetime of cherished memories include: Children; James Short and wife Terri, of Collinsville, Oklahoma Nancy Duncan, of Collinsville, Oklahoma William Short and wife Sandy, of Sperry, Oklahoma Grandchildren; Jay Magee and wife Jennifer Stephen Magee and wife Jessica Mandy Earp and husband Brian Amy Schuler and husband Richie Tyler Short and wife Stephanie Katie Short Shannon Echelle and husband Ryan Will Short and wife Erin Wyatt Short Great grandchildren; Scott, Zane, Brody, and Samantha Magee Haylee, Jamison, and Grady Schuler James, Kathryne, and Jackson Short Leo and Elaina Echelle Cayden and Lily Magee Bryson and Avari Earp Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lillie Short, his wife of over 70 years, Lovonia Short, siblings, Betty Morrow, Florence Shipman, Nona Riley, Mary Perryman, Robert Terry, and Frank Short, and great granddaughter, Isabella Magee. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2026, at the Collinsville Baptist Tabernacle with Pastor Gary Boyd officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Jay Magee, Stephen Magee, Tyler Short, William Short, Wyatt Short, and Pat Gourd. Committal service and interment will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Jim’s memory to the Collinsville Baptist Tabernacle, 13300 East 136th Street North, Collinsville, Oklahoma, 74021.
