Lovonia Marie Short

Lovonia Marie Short was born August 16, 1938, in Sudan, Texas, to William Hanes Jackman and Lena Elizabeth Bradshaw Jackman. She died Friday, May 29, 2026, in Collinsville, Oklahoma, at the age of 87 years. Lovonia completed her secondary education in Wapanucka, Oklahoma, and graduated with the Wapanucka High School Class of 1956. She married the love of her life, James Short, on April 6, 1956, in Gainesville, Texas. They later made their home in Collinsville, Oklahoma, where Lovonia spent most of her working life as a bookkeeper with Mr. Klean Car Wash. Lovonia was a strong woman of faith and was a longtime member of Collinsville Baptist Tabernacle. She loved her church and the fellowship of her church family. Lovonia enjoyed a variety of pastimes including sewing, working in her garden, and canning. She had always had a fondness for sports and was an avid fan of Oklahoma Sooner football and softball. She also enjoyed traveling with her family and friends. Lovonia dearly loved her family and spending time with her kids and grandkids. Those she leaves behind who hold a lifetime of cherished memories include: Her husband of over 70 years; Jim, of the home Children; James Short and wife Terri, of Collinsville, Oklahoma Nancy Duncan, of Collinsville, Oklahoma William Short and wife Sandy, of Sperry, Oklahoma Grandchildren; Jay Magee Stephen Magee Mandy Earp Amy Schuler Tyler Short Katie Short Shannon Echele Will Short Wyatt Short Great grandchildren; Cayden and Lily Magee Scott, Zane, Brody, and Samantha Magee Haylee Jamison and Grady Schuler James, Kathryn, and Jackson Short Bryson and Avari Earp Sisters; Billie Parker, of Grove, Oklahoma Diane Perrymore and husband Greg, of Moore, Oklahoma Johnnie Knight and husband Larry, of Atoka, Oklahoma Brother; Ronald Jackman and wife Diane, of Banner, Oklahoma She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Lena Jackman, sisters, Carolyn Couch, Joyce Adams, and Lena Watson, brothers, Jackie Jackman, Burl Jackman, and Houston Jackman, and great granddaughter, Isabella Magee. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2025, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Collinsville Baptist Tabernacle with Pastor Gary Boyd officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Jay Magee, Stephen Magee, Tyler Short, William Short, Wyatt Short, and Pat Gourd. Committal service and interment will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville, Oklahoma. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Lovonia’s memory to the Collinsville Baptist Tabernacle Vision Fund, 13300 East 136th Street North, Collinsville, Oklahoma, 74021.
