Sandra Sue "Sandy" Burton

Sandra Sue “Sandy” Burton, of Eufaula, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at the age of 75. Sandy was born on June 6, 1951, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to Howard and Blanche Nickell. She grew up in Fayetteville and graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1969. Following high school, Sandy went to work for Georgia Pacific, where she built a career that spanned 26 years. During a time when few women worked in such roles, Sandy was one of the only female members of the maintenance crew- a reflection of the strength, independence, and determination that characterized her throughout her life. Sandy married Guy Burton on April 14, 1984, and together they built a life and a home that became a gathering place for far more than just their immediate family. Their door was always open. Their home offered a safe place, a meal, a laugh, or simply somewhere to belong for many people throughout the years. Their family was not always defined by traditional boundaries, if you were loved by Sandy, you were family. Sandy loved a full house, loud laughter, and an abundance of leftovers. She loved her family fiercely and took great pride in being a mother, nanna, and aunt to multiple generations. She enjoyed traveling, spending time at the beach and lake, and cheering on her beloved Arkansas Razorbacks. She was also famously good with money. Sandy knew how to stretch a dollar and stick to a budget and was known to be a bit of a tightwad- a description she likely would have accepted with pride. Yet beneath that practicality was a tremendous generosity. Sandy gave freely of the things that mattered most: her time, her home, her humor, her kindness, and her love. Those who knew Sandy will remember a strong woman who worked hard, loved big, laughed often, and made room for people. She leaves behind not only generations of family, but also countless people whose lives were changed because Sandy made them feel welcome. Sandy is survived by her daughter, Nicole Beeson; extended children; numerous grandchildren and her brother-in-law, Buddy Barker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Guy Burton; her sisters, JoAnn Gladden, Mary Layer, and Judy Barker; her brothers-n-law, Dan Gladden and Tommy Layer; and her son-n-law, Clinton Beeson. A celebration of life will be held at Nickell Memorial Chapel in Durham, Arkansas on September 26, 2026, at 2pm. Sandy leaves behind a legacy of love, family and strength that will continue through the many lives she has touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
