Tamara Walker

Tamara Sparks Walker was born March 3, 1961, in Douglas County, Nebraska. She died Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 63 years surrounded by loved ones. Tammy completed her secondary education in Independence, Missouri, and graduated with the Van Horn High School Class of 1979. She continued her education at Central Missouri State University where she was a member of the swim team from 1979-1981. She attended Tulsa Community College from 1982-1984 before completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Tulsa. In 1988 she studied counseling and psychology at OSU-Tulsa. Tammy earned her bachelor's degree in special education at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Tammy spent her professional career as a teacher at Tulsa Public Schools, Union Public Schools, and Jenks Public Schools. She enjoyed a variety of pastimes, especially anything swimming, picking up the nicknames “Fish” and “Sparky”. She often spoke about wanting to swim in the Olympics. She was a passionate swim coach for several decades and loved teaching children with special needs. Later in life, Tammy poured her time in to watching her children play sports, and picked up photography. She loved her beloved Kansas City Chiefs and taking care of her grandkids who affectionately knew her as “Grandma”. Tammy had a vast love for animals. She had a goal to one day “take in every animal, because I can.” Those she leaves behind who hold a lifetime of memories include: Her two loving sons; Brian Walker and wife McKenzi, of Rogers, Arkansas Eric Walker and wife Nicole, of Sperry, Oklahoma Grandchildren; Claire, Joseph, Jax, Ryan, Hannah, Kylie and Lane Walker Tammy was preceded in death by her loving parents, Jewel and Mildred Sparks, who’s values of kindness and perseverance she carried throughout her life. She will be deeply missed, but forever remembered. A celebration of Tammy’s life will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso.
